NO BULLSHIT WEB DESIGN FOR BOLD, ALTERNATIVE BRANDS

Is Wordpress worth learning in 2023?

The short answer is no.

- For context, I didn’t start my business as a website designer. I just needed a website to accommodate my business as a social media manager. After endless hours of research to find the best platform, Google told me Wordpress was the way forward.

When I was first introduced to website design I was told how much I would love Wordpress. The web devs would endlessly applaud how easy it was to use with the introduction of plugins like Divi and Elementor.

I can remember setting up my first Wordpress website, spending £200 on a template that I couldn’t even try out before I bought it.

Third party plugins, broken links, outdated code and updates that rendered my website as basically useless were the least of problems. The main issue is that I couldn’t easily do ANYTHING before all of these problems started to occur.

I was lucky enough to have a few friends who were deep in the Wordpress world and their constant reminders of ‘back up your site’ still ring in my ears. Even when I did remember, something would still happen in the backend of my website. I would then have to remember all my logins to the third party websites I had used, going back and forth between the two to try and diagnose the problem.

I could go on about the constant hurdles but the takeaway is that during this time I wasn’t making any money.

-and I was having to spend more to fix the issues.

I quickly realised that to grow I needed a website that did 3 things EASILY:

1. The first being I needed it to function technically, my clients needed to be able to access my services and buy them with an automatic payment.

2. I needed it to be able to accommodate my design ideas. I love being able to change designs as trends adapt. I did not want to be stuck with the same clunky design for 3+ years.

3. The backend. I needed to get it. I wanted my analytics to always be at the forefront of my mind and use them to inform my decisions.

Basically, to make money I needed to stop wasting time on Wordpress.
